Teen, Intro, & Recreational Classes

Ballet, Jazz and Tap classes are available for dancers with little to no experience and those who like to dance for fun and fitness without a big time commitment. These classes teach dance technique through syllabus exercises and choreography.


For the young at heart we offer Tap, Hip Hop, and Ballet. Classes run as part of our regular programming and cover basic technique and choreography.

UDC Ballet Programs are based on the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association Syllabus. Dancers will learn classical technique as well as Lyrical styles allowing them to develop strength, flexibility, grace and overall technique that will support all styles of dance. Some classes will be given the option of taking CDTA Ballet exams. Ballet Dancers may also audition for a role in UDC’s Annual Ballet Production.

Children’s Ballet Programs – ages 5–12

These programs are based on the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association Ballet Syllabus. Ballerinas will be taught Ballet Technique and Choreography in a fun and supportive class. Exam programs are available for those who are ready for the next step.

The latest and hottest trend in dance, Hip Hop allows students to move and dance like their favourite pop and hip hop stars. Enjoy this high energy program while gaining strength and developing style.

Jazz technique is accompanied by fun, energetic music, creative style and movement. It is recommended that Jazz is taken in combination with a Ballet class as Ballet is an important part of developing Jazz technique.

Children's Jazz & Tap Programs – ages 5–12

The Jazz and Tap Programs teach students technique and rhythm while improving strength, flexibility and coordination. Jazz and Tap are taken in one class for younger dancers as a fun introduction and in separate classes for ages 8 and up.

This style combines Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary and Modern technique. This is a challenging and expressive class.


Three levels are offered – Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

The UDC Performance Team is made up of a dedicated group of dancers who commit themselves to a variety of dance styles and classes. These Programs combine, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Pointe, Pre-Pointe, Modern Stage and Interpretive classes for serious dancers. Dancers in these programs will be given the opportunity to take part in Ballet Exams, Performing Arts Festivals and our Annual Performance Team Ballet Production and have opportunities for solo and small group work. Entry into these programs is at the discretion of the instructors.

Experienced Dancers and Athletes can take the Performance Team Classes without registering for the entire program.

Season – September – September. (Summer Schools are recommended with these programs.)

Ages 3–4 – Tuesdays: 3–3:30 pm or Thursdays: 10–10:30 am

These classes are a fun way to introduce your little one to the world of dance. Using basic Ballet technique, creative movement and games tiny dancers will learn body awareness, coordination and confidence through dance.

– 2 sessions per season.

Ages 4–6 – Saturdays – 10:30-11:30 am

This class is a great introduction to dance for families whose weeks are full! Learn Ballet and Jazz technique through barre and center exercises, creative movement and choreography.

– 2 sessions per season.

Program Information


The Stage program includes Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Musical Theatre styles of Dance. Classes can be taken in combinations or on their own.

We offer week long programs for our young dancers to learn basic Ballet and Tap technique through fun exercises, games and choreography. Dancers develop their technique in Ballet, Jazz and Tap and are taught exercises for co-ordination, strength, flexibility and grace. They have fun with games and crafts and wrap up their week with a mini recital!

Junior Performance Team members are taught new techniques in Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Lyrical. Grade 3 exam work, new group and small group choreography is introduced.

Intermediate and Senior Performance Team Members refresh technique and learn new choreography. Each team learns an Interpretive, Lyrical, Modern Stage, Hip Hop and Ballet piece.

In order to prepare for Solos and Small Group pieces for Festival, we are now offering Summer Choreography Camps for dancers requesting these pieces. All dancers who would like solos or who are registering in the 2012/13 Performance Team Program must attend one of these camps.

        Team Choreo Camps - July 9-12 & August 27-30, 2012.

        Solo/Small Group Choreo Camps - July 24-26 or August 21-23, 2012.


Dancers learn rhythm and musicality and make lots of noise! Tap classes are combined with Jazz to give young dancers a chance to try more than one dance.

This is a dance program for adults that offers a different dance style each week:
Hip hop, African, Belly Dance, Irish, Hula Hooping, Jazz, Tap, and Ballet.
